About the Journal

GATEKEEPER: Jurnal Media dan Komunikasi is a peer-reviewed journal published by the Faculty of Da'wa and Communication, Universitas Islam Negeri Sunan Ampel Surabaya. The journal is dedicated to publishing high-quality theoretical, empirical, and applied research that addresses contemporary issues, challenges, and innovations in media and communication studies.

The scope of GATEKEEPER reflects the Faculty’s vision of nurturing critical, ethical, and transformative communication practices. It covers a wide range of topics including communication theory, media and digital studies, journalism, public relations, advertising, strategic communication, cultural and film studies, digital literacy, new media and technology, communication ethics, as well as emerging fields such as social media studies and game studies.

GATEKEEPER is committed to advancing knowledge, fostering academic dialogue, and facilitating the exchange of ideas between scholars, researchers, practitioners, and the broader community. By doing so, the journal aims to strengthen the quality and relevance of communication and media scholarship in addressing the dynamics of social, cultural, and technological transformation.

The journal is published twice a year, in June and December.
