Plagiarism Policy
The Journal of Islamic Counseling and Psychotherapy (JICOUP) upholds a strict zero-tolerance policy toward plagiarism. Any form of plagiarism detected in manuscripts submitted to this journal will result in appropriate actions in accordance with the journal’s ethical standards.
Plagiarism refers to the act of using or closely imitating the language, ideas, or intellectual work of another author and presenting it as one’s own original work. Therefore, all manuscripts submitted to the journal must be original, previously unpublished, and not under consideration elsewhere. Any material taken directly from other sources must be clearly distinguished from the author’s original writing through appropriate formatting, such as indentation, the use of quotation marks, and proper citation of the source.
If authors reproduce text beyond fair use limits or include graphical materials from other publications, they must obtain permission from the copyright holder and, whenever possible, from the original author(s). The source of the material must also be clearly acknowledged.
To ensure academic integrity, all submitted manuscripts will be screened using Turnitin similarity detection software. When similarity or potential plagiarism is identified, the Managing Editor will evaluate the manuscript and determine the appropriate action based on the similarity level according to the following criteria:
Similarity Index above 35%: The manuscript will be rejected due to excessive similarity caused by improper citation or inadequate paraphrasing. Resubmission will not be accepted.
Similarity Index between 25% and 35%: The manuscript will be returned to the author for revision. Authors are required to improve citations for all similar text and paraphrase the content properly, even if references are already provided.
Similarity Index below 25%: The manuscript may proceed to the next stage, although authors may still be required to improve citations for any referenced material.
For manuscripts in the second and third categories, authors must carefully revise the manuscript by adding appropriate references and paraphrasing the cited material effectively. The revised manuscript must be resubmitted along with a Turnitin similarity report indicating a similarity score below 25%.
