Publication Ethics

Publication Ethics

Jurnal Risalah Dakwah follows the best practices established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). This means our ethical standards for editors and publishers are guided by COPE's Code of Conduct and their detailed guidelines, ensuring we adhere to the highest standards of integrity in scholarly publishing.

Duties of Editors

Editorial Independence: Editors base their decisions to accept or reject a manuscript solely on its academic value considering its originality, validity, and clarity without any regard for the author's personal identity or background. The journal's publication and content decisions are made entirely by the Editor-in-Chief, independent of any external pressures.

Confidentiality and Conflicts of Interest: Information about a submitted manuscript is strictly confidential. Editors and their staff will only disclose details to those essential to the editorial process, including the corresponding author, reviewers, and the publisher.

Editors and editorial board members are prohibited from using unpublished information from a submitted manuscript for their own research without the author's written permission. Any private information or ideas gained during the review process must be kept confidential and cannot be used for personal gain.

Furthermore, editors must excuse themselves from evaluating any manuscript where they have a conflict of interest, such as personal or professional relationships with the authors, companies, or institutions involved. In such cases, another editorial board member will be assigned to handle the manuscript.

Publication Decisions: Every manuscript submitted to this journal undergoes a rigorous peer-review process with at least two experts in the relevant field.

The Editor-in-Chief is responsible for the final decision to publish a manuscript. This decision is based on a thorough evaluation of several key factors:

  1. The research's validity, originality, and significance to the academic community.
  2. The detailed feedback and recommendations provided by the reviewers.
  3. The manuscript's adherence to all relevant publication ethics and legal requirements, including those concerning libel, copyright infringement, and plagiarism.

The Editor-in-Chief may consult with other editors or reviewers as needed to make an informed decision. All publication decisions are made impartially, free from any personal, commercial, or political influence.

Responding to Misconduct Allegations

This journal adheres to COPE's guidance on handling research and publication misconduct. While the journal is responsible for the content it publishes, the primary responsibility for investigating alleged misconduct rests with the authors' institution(s).

Journal's Responsibilities:

  • To inform institutions promptly about any suspected misconduct.
  • To provide the institution with evidence to support the concerns (e.g., proof of plagiarism or data manipulation).
  • To cooperate fully with the institution's investigation.
  • To publish corrections or retractions based on the findings of the investigation to ensure the integrity of the published record.

Institutional Responsibilities:

  • To have a clear point of contact for research integrity issues and to publish their contact details.
  • To conduct a fair and thorough investigation into allegations of misconduct.
  • To keep the journal informed about the investigation's progress and findings.
  • To ensure that any communications related to the investigation are accurate and complete, while respecting confidentiality.

The journal and institutions must work together and maintain open lines of communication to uphold the integrity of the scholarly record.

Duties of Reviewers

Peer reviewers are essential to maintaining the integrity of the scholarly record. Our reviewers are expected to uphold the following ethical standards and responsibilities:

Promptness and Expertise: Reviewers should respond to invitations to review in a timely manner. They should only agree to review a manuscript if they have the necessary expertise to provide a thorough and unbiased assessment and can complete the review within the agreed-upon timeframe.

Confidentiality: Reviewers must treat all submitted manuscripts as confidential documents. They should not disclose any information about the manuscript to anyone or use the information for their own or another's advantage.

Objectivity and Professionalism: Reviews should be objective and constructive. Personal criticism of the author is inappropriate. Reviewers should provide clear, well-supported feedback that helps authors improve their work.

Conflicts of Interest: Reviewers must declare any potential conflicts of interest, whether personal, professional, or financial, that could influence their assessment. If a conflict of interest exists, they should decline the review.

Originality and Plagiarism: Reviewers should be alert for any instances of plagiarism, redundant publication, or other forms of misconduct. If they suspect such issues, they should report their concerns to the editor, providing supporting evidence.

Duties of Authors

Authorship carries significant responsibility, and all authors submitting to this journal are expected to adhere to the following ethical principles:

Originality and Plagiarism: Authors must ensure their work is entirely original. When using the work or words of others, appropriate citation or quotation is mandatory. Submitting a manuscript that is essentially the same as a paper already published in another journal is considered unethical and unacceptable.

Substantial Contribution: All listed authors must have made a significant intellectual contribution to the research. This includes contributions to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the study. All those who have made such contributions should be named as co-authors.

Proper Acknowledgement: Authors should ensure they have properly acknowledged the work of others and cite publications that have been influential in determining the nature of the reported work.

Data Accuracy: Authors are obligated to present an accurate account of their research and an objective discussion of its significance. The raw data should be accurately represented in the manuscript. Deliberately making inaccurate or fraudulent statements is considered unethical.

Disclosure of Conflicts of Interest: Authors must disclose any financial or other substantive conflicts of interest that could be perceived as influencing the results or interpretation of their work. All sources of financial support for the project should also be clearly acknowledged.

Prompt Error Notification: If authors discover a significant error or inaccuracy in their published work, it is their responsibility to promptly notify the journal editor and cooperate in either retracting the paper or publishing an appropriate correction (erratum).

Multiple, Redundant or Concurrent Submission: Authors should not submit a manuscript that is essentially the same as a paper already published in another journal. Submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal concurrently is also considered unethical and unacceptable.

Duties of Publisher

As the publisher, our primary duty is to support the scholarly community and ensure the integrity of the publishing process. We are responsible for upholding the principles of transparency and ethical best practices, providing a fair and supportive environment for authors, editors, and peer reviewers. Our duties include:

Editorial Independence: We will ensure that the editors of Jurnal Risalah Dakwah have full editorial independence. The publisher will not interfere with editorial decisions regarding which manuscripts to accept or reject, as these decisions must be based solely on the scholarly merit and relevance of the work.

Conflict of Interest: We are committed to managing and minimizing potential conflicts of interest for all individuals involved in the publishing process, including authors, editors, and reviewers. Our policies will be transparent and will require all parties to declare any competing interests.

Misconduct: We will take seriously all allegations of research misconduct, including plagiarism, data fabrication, and other unethical practices. We are responsible for investigating these allegations, following the COPE flowcharts and guidelines, and taking appropriate action, which may include publishing a correction, retraction, or expressing concern about an article.

Accessibility and Archiving: We have a duty to ensure the long-term accessibility of the journal's content. This involves maintaining a robust electronic backup and digital preservation plan to safeguard the published record.

Publication and Authorship

All papers submitted to Jurnal Risalah Dakwah are subject to a rigorous and fair peer-review process. Our editorial board is committed to ensuring the integrity and quality of every article we publish.

  1. The Peer-Review Process

Reviewers: Each manuscript is sent to at least two expert reviewers who are knowledgeable in the relevant field.

Review Method: To ensure impartiality, we employ a blind peer review process. The identities of both the authors and the reviewers are kept confidential from each other throughout the evaluation.

Review Criteria: Reviewers evaluate manuscripts based on several key factors, including their relevance to the journal's scope, the soundness of the research methodology, the originality and significance of the findings, and the overall readability and quality of the language.

  1. Editorial Decisions

Following the peer review, the editor will make one of the following decisions:

  • Acceptance: The manuscript is accepted for publication without revisions.
  • Acceptance with Revisions: The manuscript is accepted, but minor or major revisions are required. Authors are given a specific timeframe to revise their paper based on the reviewers' feedback. Please note that an invitation to revise does not guarantee final acceptance.
  • Rejection: The manuscript is not suitable for publication in the journal. Rejected articles will not be considered for re-submission.
  1. Ethical and Legal Compliance

The final acceptance of any paper is contingent upon its compliance with all legal and ethical requirements in force, including those pertaining to libel, copyright infringement, and plagiarism. Furthermore, Jurnal Risalah Dakwah maintains a strict policy against redundant or duplicate publication; research cannot be submitted to, or included in, more than one publication.

Reviewers for Jurnal Risalah Dakwah play a crucial role in ensuring the integrity of the publication process. They are expected to uphold the highest ethical standards, as outlined below:

Confidentiality: All information regarding a manuscript must be kept confidential. Reviewers should treat the papers they are asked to evaluate as privileged information and not share or discuss them with anyone outside of the review process.

Objectivity: Reviews must be conducted objectively. Personal criticism of the author is inappropriate. Reviewers should express their views clearly and provide specific, supporting arguments to help the author improve the manuscript.

Editors’ Responsibilities

The editors of Jurnal Risalah Dakwah have a critical role in ensuring the quality and integrity of the journal. Their responsibilities are guided by a commitment to ethical publishing practices, as follows:

Editorial Authority: The editors have the sole responsibility and authority to accept or reject articles. This decision is based on the paper's importance, originality, clarity, and relevance to the journal's scope.

Quality and Integrity: Editors are responsible for the overall quality of the publication and for maintaining the integrity of the academic record. They should also publish errata pages or corrections when necessary.

Impartiality: Decisions should be based on the merits of the paper alone, not on the authors' nationality, ethnicity, political beliefs, or other personal characteristics. Editors should not reverse decisions without a serious and valid reason.

Anonymity: Editors must preserve the anonymity of reviewers throughout and after the review process.

Ethical Oversight: Editors are responsible for ensuring that all published research material conforms to internationally accepted ethical guidelines.

Misconduct: When misconduct is suspected, whether in a published or unpublished paper, editors must act. They should make all reasonable attempts to investigate and obtain a resolution. However, decisions should not be based on suspicion alone; there should be evidence of misconduct.

Conflict of Interest: Editors must ensure that there are no conflicts of interest among themselves, the authors, reviewers, or editorial board members. They should have a clear understanding of a research's funding sources to assess any potential biases.
